Diverse Women in Law (DWL) is a Sydney based group that aims to work directly with women from diverse backgrounds in the legal sector.
The primary aims of the organisation are:
(1) To identify and implement solutions that address the chronic under-representation of diverse women in the legal sector;
(2) To foster and support diverse women entering, thriving and progressing through the ranks of legal practice, through mentoring and other support initiatives; and
(3) Through programs and initiatives, respond to local challenges to community harmony and social cohesion and support diverse groups to develop relationships with one another and deliver initiatives that promote inclusiveness and belonging.
There is presently no organisation in NSW that has a sole focus on empowering and raising the profile of diverse women in the law. DWL aims to fulfil its aims by working with universities to bridge the gap that presently exists between diverse women and the ranks of legal practice.
DWL's target group are women who are entering the law or are at the earlier stages of their careers and who are culturally and linguistically diverse, from migrant, indigenous and refugee backgrounds, LGBTQI, with caring responsibilities and/or from regional, rural and remote areas.
DWL's focus this year is to grow our team, convene events, publish a report on barriers and challenges faced by diverse women as well as to roll out a targeted mentoring program in the second half of 2019. For enquiries and to get involved, please contact us at email@example.com
